Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro Z250

Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro Z250

becker_z250_ferrari

We’ve talked about Ferrari GPS stuff on Navigadget before - mostly from German brand Becker. Their latest GPS navigation system designed after the Ferrari brand is called Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro Z250.

This portable GPS, conceived in collaboration with the Italian brand, has an ergonomic design with special materials such as the ‘Soft-Touch’. It has a user interface personalized for Ferrari; also in addition to the traditional POIs like the hotels, restaurants, museums, service stations and other places which marked on your route, this GPS also integrates, the Ferrari dealers in all of Europe and the United States.

The rest of the specs are quite ordinary. Take for example the wide 4.3″ screen, processing running at 400 MHz, 128MB of memory, Premium RDS/TMC Traffic information and a Bluetooth kit for hands free phone calls.

Like the previous Becker models, Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro Z250 also integrates a GPS SiRF III chip with SiRF InstantFixII function which allows for the prediction of satellite locations and thus, a faster calculation of position.

New for Becker, this GPS navigation system is delivered with maps of 40 European countries as well as United States, all of which fits onto a 4GB SD card.

Like Becker Z201, Z250 Ferrari will utilize the iGO 8 navigation software from Nav N Go which supports split screen view, lane assistance, 3D monuments, 3D highway intersections, and realistic road signs.

Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 250 Ferrari Edition is available for 399 € in authorized Becker dealers or other Ferrari stores…

GPS E-care Hub

gps-ecare-hub-2

While we were back at CES 2009 we came across really innovative devices and ideas. One of them was the GPS E-Care Hub called C103. Manufactured by GroupSense of Hong Kong, E-Care Hub is designed for patient tracking.

It has some amazing features that will help the care givers by giving them the ability to keep track of their patients remotely. It does GPS tracking which is also supported by server side features such as geo-fencing, and even A-GPS to make indoor tracking easier. It has a panic key which after pressed activates the voice monitor using the GSM module. Other patient focused features include fall detection, pedometer, and the ability to communicate with other health sensors.

GPS E-Care Hub comes with a charging dock and the necessary accessories to attach to a patient, like a wrist band. We hope none of our readers ever have to wear one of these at a hospital but if you ever do please feel free to write up a short review for us. More pics after the jump…

Garmin FR60 Fitness Watch with ANT+ wireless sync

Garmin have announced their latest GPS-enabled exercise trainer, the FR60 Fitness Watch.  Thanks to the ANT+ wireless fitness equipment standard, the FR60 can track time, calories burned, heart rate and other data from linked fitness equipment, then - with the supplied ANT+ USB stick - wirelessly transfer that information to your PC when it comes into range.

garmin_fr60_fitness_watch-480x271

The Garmin FR60 comes as standard with a heart-rate monitor, and several bundles also include a ‘foot pod’ that can be used to record pedometer data.  That’s in addition to the GPS receiver, which can record up to 15hrs and 100 laps of detailed exercise records, including route and performance statistics.

Various activity-specific accessories are available, such as bike speed and cadence sensors and handlebar mounts, and gym equipment using the ANT+ standard will also wirelessly link to the watch.  Both mens and womens versions are available, each with access to the Garmin Connect online training site, for workout sharing and access to messageboards.  No pricing for the Garmin FR60 has been announced so far.

OnPar: GPS Rangefinder with iPhone Aesthetics

There are a slew of GPS rangefinders out there for golfers, but not many are built with all the style, portability and one-touch interface of a premium touchscreen smartphone.

The OnPar features a 3.5-inch screen and a reasonable thickness of .63 inches, making it just a tad stubbier than an iPhone. It stores up to 300 courses in its memory and operates without subscription fees. But beyond mere yardage to the pin, it seems that the OnPar's touchscreen is put to good use in that it allows you to track yardage to anywhere on the hole, like a water hazard or sand trap, with a simple touch of the screen.

The OnPar will be available next month. No word on price.

Lowrance Endura Touchscreen GPS Takes Any Map on Land and Sea

Lowrance isn't big in the automotive GPS business, but if you're a boater, you know them. Yesterday they launched the Endura Sierra, Safari and Outback: Sturdy, touchscreen handhelds that take outdoor maps of all kinds.

Magellan, Garmin and plenty of other companies have outdoor GPS, but Lowrance's focus here was building one set of devices that could be used in all kinds of activities including hiking, hunting, off-roading, skiing, and of course boating. The key is map openness: On land, it can use maps from Accuterra, Navionics and others. On the water, it takes Navionics, Fishing Hotspots and more. And for in-car use, you can load up a Navteq database. Needless to say, the openness is extended to community maps and trail guides in the Open GPX format.

The tech specs of the Endura line are similar (or better) than most of the competition: All three are waterproof to the IPX7 standard. They have rubber 'armoring,' take AAs (so you don't have to charge up in the jungle) and MicroSD cards up to 32GB, and have 'attach points' so you can clip it to your jacket. Most important, the touchscreen is capable of use with gloves on or off, so you don't have to freeze your fingers off trying to get back to base camp.

The top of the line Sierra ($550) comes not only 'fully loaded' with a lot of map content, but it has a barometric altimeter and a 3D compass, plus 4GB built-in memory for your maps or even music, pics and video—not that you'd waste your storage on that stuff. The step-down Safari ($385) can play MP3s and, like the Sierra, has headphone jack and a speaker. The basic Outback ($230) has none of those frills, but similar software for doing most of the basic navi stuff. These guys are due out in May, just in time for the weather to get nice.

HTC Touch Cruise (a.k.a Iolite) Announced, Chock-Full of GPSy Goodness

Last week we got a closer look at the HTC Iolite, highlighting a particularly mysterious footprint key at the bottom. Well, today the Touch Cruise has been announced, and we learn that the key is reserved for a little service called Footprints. Footprints allows users to quickly geotag their location with pictures, audio clips, and notes, as well as retrace their path. I’m a huge fan of geotagging, namely because it’s using GPS for something other than driving directions for a change, but the Touch Cruise handles that as well with a bundled car cradle. When locked in, the Touch Cruise changes its UI to something a little more driver-friendly. On the whole, this phone’s got some flavour to it - keep an eye out this Spring.

Specifications after the jump!

Key HTC Touch Cruise Specifications

Dmedia G5W GPS System With WiMAX

Dmedia G5W GPS System With WiMAX

Dmedia is visionary in its own way with a standalone GPS navigation system that not only helps you get to your intended destination, it also boasts WiMAX connectivity so that you will be able to remain connected at all times to the Internet. There is no word on whether the Dmedia G5W is a finished product or is it still in the prototype store, but some of the specifications shown include :-

  • 5? touch sensitive widescreen display

  • Bluetooth connectivity

  • FM transmitter

  • GPRS/EDGE modules

Now this would really catch on in cities with free WiMAX, but until that massive roll out happens, this remains a pipe dream. How much do you think a device like the Dmedia G5W will cost?

Alpine IVA-W505/P1

iva-w505p1

After IVA-W203, Alpine just announced its big brother IVA-W505 for the U.S. market. With an MSRP of $1400 and a 7″ touch screen you are right if you expect to see a lot of features from this device.

Looking at the specs it doesn’t look like the new Alpine IVA-W505/P1 will let us down though. Let’s have a brief look at the features of this 2DIN in-dash navigation+entertainment device:

First off you’ve got the removable navigation drive NVE-P1 which fits behind the screen - however it doesn’t have a screen of its own so you can’t just take to another vehicle. It comes preloaded with NAVTEQ maps including Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. It does text-to-speech so you can always keep your eyes on the road trying to read the street name off of the screen.

Alpine IVA-W505/P1 also gives you full access/control to your iPod including cover art and album/artist information. You can get your entertainment not only from iPod but also bunch of other formats such as DVD, CD, MP3, AAC, WMA, DivX.. pretty much any media file you can get your hands on. It also has bluetooth connectivity for syncing with your compatible phone - and you can even set it to take calls automatically.

It includes an electronic compass and barometric altimeter as well which can be quite important if you’re outdoors a lot. eTrex Vista H also features USB interface which will give you access to a whopping 24MB of internal memory - allowing you to add detailed topo maps.

Fujitsu F-01A

fujitsu-f-01a

Fujitsu F-01A is a new waterproof phone with a fingerprint sensor. That’s all really cool and may be a little overkill but still no reason to be on Navigadget. What we care about is of course the embedded GPS capabilities. It comes out of the box with Google Maps and Street View support and even comes with a 1Seg TV tuner - this is of no use for us folks in the U.S. but in Asia it will let you watch digitally broadcast TV channels on its huge 3.5″ screen that flips and turns to make it easy for you to catch up on a dubbed version of the show ‘Friends’.

The leading cause of cell phone returns not covered under warranty is damage from exposure to excess moisture or immersion in water such as in pools and hot tubs. Fujitsu’s F-01A waterproof cell phone meets IPX5 and IPX7 specifications, making it capable of submersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Other features of Fujitsu F-01A include 5.2MP digital camera with autofocus, and Symbian OS.

Cydle introduces T43 navigator with Bluetooth, HD Radio support

Lookie here -- we've got yet another new entrant into the portable navigation market, but thankfully, Cydle has decided to differentiate a bit with the inclusion of HD Radio support. The company's one and only model (for now, anyway) is the T43, which features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, the latest version of Cydle 3D Map and Cydle XE Map, HD Radio support, real-time traffic via the traditional RDS-TMC as well as the newer HD Radio-based method and Bluetooth for good measure. It'll reportedly hit Best Buy shelves in the not-too-distant future, though there's no price mentioned.

There are no fancy features in eTrex Legend H but you’ve still got the USB interface for uploading Topo maps.

eTrex Legend H has a 2.4″ grayscale screen - just like the eTrex Vista H - which can be used to view basemap of North and South America, containing major lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and coastlines.

We’ve talked about the SmartMirror here on Navigadget before. We went to Azentek booth and checked their product again at CES 2009.

Their press release we picked up says they’re shipping the SmartMirror and the VP of Sales said ‘initial sales skyrocketed creating back-orders after launching August, mainly through car dealerships and 12-Volt retailers’, which would explain why we still can’t find this online anywhere.

Anyways, in 2009 they’ll be upgrading the 4″ digital screen in the mirror to a 4.3″ display and make it available for $800. And it still supports a rear view camera.

If you’ve seen this online or at a store do let us know.

Their new model (and only) T43 features a 4.3″ touchscreen and the latest version Cydle 3D Map and Cydle XE Map. It can get traffic updates from TMC HD radio which they claim is 10 times faster than getting the data with traditional RDS TMC. While you’re at HD radio channels you can tune into other HD radio channels which should provide you with digital sound quality. It also can pair up with your bluetooth enabled phone so you can take and make calls from using the touchscreen interface of your GPS navigation system.

We’re not sure how soon you’ll see Cydle T43 at your local Best Buy shelves. If you do see it though, please let us know as well.

  • voice recognition control for navigation and other connected sources

Mio MID (mobile internet device)

Mio was displaying a mobile internet device (MID) at CES 2009. Being used to seeing GPS navigation systems from Mio we were quite surprised.

mio-mid-2

What’s really interesting about Mio MID is that it is running Windows Mobile, not a ‘full’ OS. It has a nice 7″ screen, weighs 600 grams, and can last up to 8 hours on a single charge.

We would be a little disappointed if Mio failed to put a GPS receiver in there, but they didn’t let us down. Mio MID does have an integrated GPS receiver - which they say make this the ideal travel companion. However we do not know if they’re going to install their new Spirit navigation software in there as well.

Mio MID also includes WiFi connectivity. The final specs as well as launch schedule are expected to be revealed in second quarter of this year.

The MSN services are the news ones, or as they call it ‘enhanced MSN Direct Services’ which can get you traffic updates, flight status, Doppler radar, gas prices, local events, stocks prices, news and business headlines and a wireless ‘send to GPS’ capability.

Other features of nüvi 885T includes bluetooth for hands-free calling, integrated FM wireless transmitter to transmit all audio your vehicle’s stereo, and USB 2.0 to download media to the device.

There will also be a T’less version; namely garmin nuvi 885 which will exclude the MSN Direct services or Bluetooth wireless technology and will cost $700.

Garmin also unveiled nuvi 865T today, however did not accompany it with a press release as it did for nuvi 885T we talked about couple of hours ago.

Different from 885T, 865T excludes enhanced MSN Direct services so the price should a bit down from the $800, we’ll guess $750.

We’re guessing there will also be a version without the T; just nuvi 865. We’ll guess that’ll go for $650…

TomTom Go 740 Live: Their Connected GPS

TomTom Go 740 Live: Their Connected GPS

TomTom's Go 740 Live GPS is their first to have a cellular connection built-in, used to download traffic weather and friend finder information.

Old TomTom's had cellular data capabilities with very limited models, over bluetooth, through your cellular handset, but model support, but having this service built in, free for a year. The unit also records map data corrections, and in Wikipedia style. And I really have been liking TomTom's advanced lane guidance, which draws a pretty nice illustration of complicated turn offs.

This TomTom also uses 'IQ Route' tech to measure arrival times, based on time of day and weekend vs weekday traffic patterns, gathered from users who dock and sync their navs with software. But, unlike Dash and Telenav Shotgun, it can't upload in real time, so you're not getting real time data for traffic jams from other users. (You get it from other providers.)

The device works on a GPRS network, leading me to believe its on AT&T, since they've been very into providing service for devices lately.

You can't really preview a GPS while sitting in a show room, but this seems like a decent device, given TomTom's move towards connectivity in it, and the hardware design is stellar, with a twist grip for the compact suction cup, and speaker grill in the back.

I would like the device to perhaps get some live uploading of traffic, but as we saw with Dash, that is a hard thing to master.
