Aerotel's GeoSkeeper lets everyone know exactly where you've fallen and can't get up

For some reason, all the promising telehealth devices we come across seem to suffer from the same bad case of vaporitis, but we'll let these awful renders of Aerotel's GeoSkeeper slide because the idea is actually quite promising. The watch features a GPS receiver, which allows the unit to send your position to rescuers over the built-in GSM / GPRS data module. Of course, that's not a new idea either, but Aerotel's included speakerphone functionality and remote programmability to the device -- meaning everyone will know exactly where you are when you look like a giant nerd using this thing.

Garmin has announced a 3.5G cell phone, the Garmin nuvifone. The touch screen device will include Google local search capability. Nüvifone users can search for locations like ‘coffee shops’ and Google will sort the results based on the user’s current location and relevance. Information provided by Google includes a web-based rating so that users can select the most appropriate destination and route directly to it. In addition, the nüvifone also includes personal messaging functions, including email, text, and instant messaging.

Of course the device includes all the great nuvi navigation features that you would expect. In addition to navigation, the nüvifone includes access to Garmin Online™, an online service offering constantly-updating information such as real-time traffic, fuel prices, stock prices, sport scores, news reports, local events and weather forecasts. No word on whether that will be served by MSN Direct or not.

There's a geotagging camera. here's the description from the press release:

'The built-in camera allows individuals to take a picture that will automatically be tagged with the exact latitude and longitude reference of where the image was taken. The user may then save the image so they can navigate back to the location, or email the image to a recipient who can navigate directly to the location. The nüvifone also provides direct access to millions of geo-located landmark and sightseeing photographs available through Google’s Panoramio picture sharing site. The Panoramio photo search feature enhances the enjoyment and adventure of sightseeing in an otherwise unfamiliar location.'

Availability is listed as Q3 2008. No price is given yet, nor is carrier info available.

Mio Moov and Mio Moov XL

Mio Moov and Mio Moov XL

Mio_moov

The bovine-sounding Mio Moov and Mio Moov XL are making their way through the FCC approval process, getting one step closer to our dashboards. The Moov units should be the first to ditch the old iGo interface for a newer, more intuitive one born of the Mio / Navman merger.

I had a chance to check out the prototype at CES last month and liked

what I saw. Oh, and the 'Luhen' at the top? No idea what that means.

The ones at CES had 'GPS' on top of the unit. And they were

calling them the 'Move' series rather than the 'Moov.'

Few other details are available at this time. It appears that a 3.5' and 4.3' version will be offered, the latter being the XL model of course. And at least one of them will have Bluetooth. These new receivers are likely to appear on store shelves sometime in the next two months.

Super Box is an MP4 Player + GPS + TV and Much More

hka-6501c-divx-gps.jpg

This ‘media box’ from Yiwu Haofeng code-named HKA-6501C is a DivX, DVD-playing recycled-looking PMP that also supports playback for such esoteric formats like MP4 (AVI) and HDCD or High Definition Compatible Digital, which is a Microsoft proprietary format that offers backwards compatibility with old CDs. If this is not news to you, it definitely is to me. Apparently, several Windows Media Player versions can play this. Yiwu Haofeng’s device offers a 6.5 inch screen in which to view movies of formats already mentioned and TV in addition to that. We have no idea if it supports digital TV but it definitely receives analog with NTSC/PAL support as well as RDS.

The 6.5-inch viewing real estate offers touch control. It comes with a remote, built-in Bluetooth and GPS. Something called Electronic Anti-Shock Protection either prevents damage on the device from accidental drops or prevents users from electrocution. For a company that only employs 10 people, they do make machines with some kind of awesome in them. Oh, did I mention it plays music too?

A more complete list of what this Cloverfield-class PMP can do follows after the break.
