Medion’s new off-road GPS navigation systems

After their exclusive agreement with the National Geographic Institute (IGN) to use the ‘IGN Evadeo’ trademark, German brand Medion introduced its first GPS Evadeo intended for off-roading as well as for use on motorcycles.

Medion has introduced 3 new GPS navigation systems: the Evadeo M3220, M3320 and M3320a Premium. They all have a 3.5″ touch screen with 240x320 pixels resolution (QVGA).

The new Medion Evadeo GPS navigation systems are IPX7 standard meaning they can be submerged up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes - not that you are going to test this….

They all have a 1800mAh battery, 2GB of internal memory and a MicroSD card slot. There’s also bluetooth but it’s not for taking calls on your phone, it is only for a headset for the voice guidance.

The M3320 and Premium M3320a also incorporate an accelerometer, a compass, an altimeter and a barometer. Unlike previous Evadeo series which had a program used for both car navigation and off road navigation, Medion now has chosen a different approach. For car navigation, it will be the GoPal software. For off-road navigation, Medion software retains the excellent road TwoNav Editor CompeGPS. This software was already present in previous Evadeo and is also found in the GPS off-road TwoNav Adventura.

The M3220 comes with the road map of France, while the M3320 and M3320a Premium come with the road map of 23 countries in Europe; all supplied by Navteq.

Terrain maps are of course provided by IGN. All of the three new GPS navigation systems come with GPS mapping at 1/100,000th of the whole of metropolitan France, integrating GR (Trails) and the contour. It can therefore be used free of charge in any field.

These GPS Medion Evadeo M3220, M3320 and M3320a Premium should be available from mid-May at no extra charge of 279 €, 329 € and 349 €…

garmin nuvi 3750

Garmin Nuvi 3750 is the entry level to the new brand new Garmin Nuvi 3700 series. It has the same form factor as nuvi 3760T and nuvi 3790T. Other than the amazing 9mm super slim body, 4.3″ touch screen with the ability to pinch zoom, there’s not much to see here except the $350 price tag.

You can go ahead and compare all the 3700 models and you’ll see nuvi 3750 is lacking voice command input, 3D building view, bluetooth, and even the FM traffic receiver.

However it can still do text-to-speech, lane assistance, and even some traffic information based on historical traffic data:

trafficTrends, your nüvi 3750 automatically learns daytime trends for traffic flow to improve your routes and better predict your estimated time of arrival based on time of day and day of week. And you get free trafficTrends™ updates every time you connect your device to myGarmin.

myTrends, when you save your regular destinations in your ‘Favorites,’ your nüvi 3750 will, over time, begin to figure out where you’re going even without your telling it! It provides time of arrival and relevant traffic information. So whether you’re driving to and from work or a regularly scheduled weekly event, your nüvi 3750 will help you get there on time.

new Navman 575, Navman 475, and Navman 470

Mio and Navman just announced three new GPS navigation systems for the European markets. They’re the Navman 575, Navman 475, and Navman 470. What’s interesting with these new models is that TomTom licensed their IQ Routes technology to Mio for these three sat nav devices, and Mio put their own LearnMe feature on top of that which learns to use the roads that you like.

At the hardware level Navman 470 and 475 look quite similar, offering 4.3″ screens, and the Navman 575 one ups them with a 4.7″ touch screen.

A few of the other features include:

  • One year free real time traffic and safety camera information

  • SiRFStar InstantFix

  • Google Send-to-GPS

It looks like Navman 470 will be offered at a price you can’t refuse: Only £99 with Western European maps included. Navman 575 on the other hand will reach in your pocket for £149.99 when it launches in May.

garmin nuvi 3760T

Garmin also just announced nuvi 3760T today. Different from nuvi 3790T, Garmin Nuvi 3760T does not accept voice commands and does not render buildings in 3D. Giving up these two features saves you about $50 and brings the price down to $400.

However the rest of the specs are still pretty impressive. You’ve got the 4.3″ full glass capacitive multi-touch screen with 800x480 resolution. Traffic updates for the lifetime of the product, 9mm body, bluetooth connectivity, powered windshield mount with the extra speaker, and bunch of other features you can expect from any decent GPS navigation system out there such as text-to-speech, lane guidance, traffic prediction based on historical data, and a lot more.
