Our European penpal Becker has come with a new GPS navigation system for trucks. It is called Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 302.

Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 302, is their first mobile truck navigation system. The truck drivers can define profiles that are tailored specifically to his/her vehicle and payload. This profile includes details such as height, width, length, axle number, and weight which is then analyzed to calculate the optimal route. Impassable roads, tunnels and bridges are excluded depending on the profile data and possible, alternative routes are offered for selection in a map view so that the driver can choose the best route for him.

The device also includes a remote controller (see photo above) which would especially be helpful if you were not able to reach the windshield. In case you’re not following - this is a GPS navigation system for trucks. Other features include bluetooth connectivity, 3D buildings and landscapes, text-to-speech, TMC traffic updates, and of course a relatively large 4.3″ touch screen.

Becker have designed a new and hardened and more resistant version of its portable GPS Z101 which we mentioned back in May. This new GPS navigation system; Becker Z100, is nicknamed Crocodile since it is outer casing looks like it has scales.

Z100 Crocodile has a wide screen that measures 4.3″ and Navteq maps of 40 countries in Europe stored on a 2GB SD memory card. It works with live traffic information via RDS/TMC Premium and integrates SiRF Star III GPS receiver chip with the SiRF InstantFixII functionality which allows the prediction for satellite locations and thus a faster GPS fix.

new Becker Z101 and Z200

German brand Becker just introduced a new range of sat nav systems called Z with two new models: Z101 and Z200.

Becker also introduced a new GPS navigation software which can split the screen in two to show small graphics representing your next turn and a general view of your route.

The hardware also got some upgrades which now uses SiRF Star III with InstantFixII which tries to predict the location of satellites to shorten fix times.

Both Z101 and Z200 follow the design of Becker Traffic Asist 7977 and 7827. They have a 4.3″ screen, maps of 40 European countries from Navteq on a 2GB SD card and RDS/TMC traffic receiver.

The navigation software actually comes from Navigon and it really excels when it comes to providing lane guidance with RealityView as well as 3D renderings of certain buildings.

Compared to Z101, Z200 has the extra Bluetooth kit for handsfree calling and a multimedia manager for reading video and audio files.

Z101 will be available mid-July for 229 Euros whereas Z200 is on sale starting from mid-June, for 349 Euros…

During the San Francisco CTIA, I took a close look at Becker’s GPS devices and I like how they were built with small details that made life a little better. I hope that this 7827 is built with the same principles. The picture above is not a photo, but the Becker 7827 will be shown at CES 2008.

Becker announced an extra wide GPS navigation system at IFA 2007 in Berlin. Called Becker Traffic Assist 7928 the device has a 4.8″ touch screen - which is unusual for a sat nav system.

Inside Becker 7928 you’ll find a 400 MHz-processor and a SiRF Star III chipset which is normal. However, the new device has 128MB of RAM which is twice what other manufacturers offer. Of course a device named ‘traffic assist’ also features RDS/TMC receiver to get live traffic information and thanks to the bluetooth feature you can take calls handsfree provided you have a bluetooth enabled phone.

Becker comes with Navteq maps that cover 37 European countries - which fits on a 2 GB SD card, which also contains some 3D renderings of famous landmarks in some select countries…

FCC Nod for Harman/Becker BE 7928 GPS Navigation Device

Harman/Becker BE 7928 GPS

Harman/Becker's BE 7928 GPS navigation device just got the green signal from the FCC. The BE 7928 features a touch screen interface, as well as a phone button to answer/reject incoming calls over Bluetooth. A nifty Day/Night button switches between Day view and Night view when using the navigation system. The system takes in SD/MMC memory cards allowing you to store maps, MP3 music and more. It also features a USB device for connecting to your PC.

One of the neat features of the Harman/Becker BE 7928 GPS device is the included FM transmitter. This lets you transmit your MP3 songs onto your car radio. The Bluetooth transceiver on this device allows you to connect only one phone at a time. When a phone is connected, contacts from your SIM card are automatically downloaded onto the BE 7928 so you can dial them directly from it rather than having to fumble with the phone when driving (you don't do that now, do you?).

No word on the pricing or availability yet, but check back with us soon for those tiny details.
