Mio said to be prepping GPS-enabled 3.5G touchscreen handset for Q1 2009

Not that Mio hasn't pumped out a GPS phone or two before, but the rarely-heard-from handset maker is reportedly on its way to delivering its first 3.5G touchscreen-based GPS phone in Q1 2009. Undisclosed sources singled out at DigiTimes have it that the mobile will be powered by a 3.5G chipset from Qualcomm and will come loaded with Mitac's self-developed 'Spirit' touch interface. Additionally, it'll pack a 3.2-megapixel camera and should launch ahead of Garmin's oft-delayed nüvifone. In related news, Mio is also scheduled to launch a GPS-packin' MID before Q1 2009 ends, though it's still unclear if it'll choose a 7- or 8-inch panel to accompany the 3G radio and Windows CE operating system.

BT-Q1000X

QStarz just unveiled a new GPS data logger / bluetooth GPS receiver which they claim is world’s most powerful. Called BT-Q1000X, this device has the same form factor as some of QStarz’ earlier models but it is more sensitive, has lower power consumption, and has A-GPS support.

Here are the impressive features of the new BT-Q1000X.

  • Adopts MTK II latest chipset with high sensitivity -165dBm and 66-Channel tracking

  • Ultra lower power consumption up to 42hrs operation

  • Less than 15-Sec. AGPS fix support: download almanac data to realize faster TTFF and positioning under warm start

  • Update Rate 1~5Hz changeable by utility provided

  • G-Mouse + Bluetooth in one: wired and wireless GPS receiver

  • QZSS, DGPS(WAAS+EGNOS+MSAS) support

BT-Q1000X can record up to 200,000 points, save a location with the push of a button (for geotagging), and has an auto on-off feature to save battery.

We’re not sure when this will hit the store here in the U.S. but we’re guessing it may be a while as BT-Q1000X is not even on QStarz’ website yet.

Eclipse AVN726E

We just talked about Eclipse AVN4430 and Eclipse AVN726E but we thought the Eclipse AVN726E deserves its own post since it also is a ‘Innovations 2009 Design And Engineering Award Honoree’

The AVN726E, essentially a next generation of AVN, provides ‘full-on in-vehicle entertainment’ and achieves superior image quality with pure digital video circuitry, improved audio performance with lowered distortion using premium parts as well as memory-based navigation, creating a next generation AVN unit.

Eclipse AVN726E has a 7″ screen and also provides GPS navigation but not detachable like the AVN4430. The specs are not yet revealed for Eclipse AVN726E.

Eclipse AVN4430

We’ve mentioned the AVN2210P numerous times here on Navigadget but we got the news that TomTom and Fujitsu Ten are getting together once again to release Eclipse AVN4430.

Along with AVN726E, Eclipse AVN4430 will be named the ‘2009 Design and Engineering Award Honorees’ at the CES 2009 in Vegas. Keep in mind two years ago AVN2210p was rewarded the same title.

The ‘AVN’ abbreviation stands for ‘audio visual navigation’ and as far as specs all we know is that:

The AVN4430 is a secure dash-mount audio/visual/navigation system with portability, has a TomTom PND integrated with ECLIPSE superior sound & visual quality and offers exclusive benefits with co-branded technologies.

However just looking at the press photo we see that AVN4430 has a detachable 4.3″ TomTom GPS navigation system, and bluetooth connectivity.

Stay tuned for more specs… via

It is now selling at exclusively at Crutchfield for $650, available in black, red, and white.

If this device had WiMax it may have been worth your money but with only WiFi all we can say is to get one of those new netbooks with your money at spend the extra cash on a GPS receiver with a mount…
