Mio unveils new Navman GPS navigation systems for Europe

Folks living in Europe will be able to get their hands on a trio of new Navman GPS navigation systems - namely the Navman 575, Navman 475 and Navman 470. All three will rely on TomTom's licensed their IQ Routes technology, alongside Mio's own LearnMe feature that lets the device pick up which are your favorite routes. The Navman 470 and 475 are pretty similar hardware-wise, coming with a 4.3? display while the Navman 575 has a more generous 4.7? touchscreen display. Other features comprise of a one year free real time traffic and safety camera information, SiRFStar InstantFix and Google Send-to-GPS. You can expect to fork out £99 for the Navman 470, albeit it comes with Western European maps only this May. As for the Navman 575, it will retail for £149.99 a pop.

We just came across this French site that claims they’ll exclusively be offering the Mio iPhone/iPod Touch car kit which looks identical to Magellan’s car kit which we actually reviewed a short while ago. We won’t be surprised if this is actually the case - since MiTAC Mio bought off Magellan couple of years ago and apparently the Euro version of this GPS embedded car kit will be under Mio brand name.

The source says Mio will soon announce its Car Kit for iPhone which integrates its own GPS chip to get a better GPS reception for more accurate navigation then iPhone 3G alone. The Car Kit will obviously compatible with the iPod to the extent that it integrates its own GPS chip and a powerful speaker for voice guidance and may be in portrait or landscape position. The assembly will be possible either on the windshield or directly on the dashboard.

The price normally will be around 100 € to compete with TomTom Car Kit.

However there will be no navigation software for iPhone and iPod Touch provided by Mio Car Kit.

The launch is scheduled for mid May 2010.

Mio S400

Mio has a brand new GPS navigation system out in Korea called Mio S400. Mio S400 is a dual purpose sat nav device that can be both used inside a vehicle or on a bike/motorcycle.

It will come out tomorrow in Korea to be exact and will be sold for 139000 KRW ($122). The device measures only 18mm in thickness, weighs 147.5 grams. The battery is good for about 2.5 hours and it looks like it won the iF Design Award China with its stylish black/silver frame.

Some other specs include the 20 channel GPS receiver, Windows CE 5.8 which allows for watching of movies or playing games as well as the more important office viewer. It can also accept external memory cards up to 16GB.

Will it come to this side of the world we don’t know yet…

Mio will be showing their brand new GPS navigation + entertainment + internet device called Mio Moov V780 at CeBIT 2010.

Mio maybe targeting the area between netbooks and sat nav systems with this device since Moov V780 has a carrying case with keyboard, 7″ screen, and can play HD movies up to 720p resolution. Not only that but it can even output HD video with its HD interface port. Other entertainment features include digital TV support, YouTube access, photo and music players, and the intuitive 3D interface.

Mio Moov V780 comes with WiFi 802.11b/g but the spec sheet [pdf] says 3.5G and WiMax connection is supported but optional.

It has built in mail clients for Microsoft Exchange server and Gmail and comes with a web browser with Flash capabilities.

Some hardware specs include 600Mhz processor, 4 - 8 GB memory, 512MB RAM, microSD card slot, 6.95″ TFT LCD capacitor touch screen with 800x480 resolution, a giant 2300mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack, DVB-T, TDMB, and 1-Seg digital TV support.

Mio Technology has developed a new GPS navigation system called Mio Hammer V700. It will be available starting on the 12th of this month and comes with the longest windshield mount we’ve ever seen so you won’t have to stretch too far.

Mio Hammer V700 has a 7″ screen, a stylish high quality black frame that only measures 16mm thick.

The giant 7″ display can provide 800x480 pixel resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio and can play various multimedia content such as audio and video. It has a GPS receiver that can track 64 satellites at once and can get traffic updates with the TPEG receiver.

4GB version will cost 329,000KRW ($285), and the 12GB version (4GB + 8GB external) will go for 359,000 KRW($310). Yeah, sorry. We don’t think this is coming to U.S. anytime soon.

The two relatively new GPS navigation systems from Mio, M300 and M400, we announced back in July for the European market was just announced for the U.S. market today. As you’ll below the specs are pretty much identical to what the Europeans are getting but obviously we’re getting the maps for all 50 US States and Puerto Rico. The features of M300 and M400 include text-to-speech, lane guidance, and 4 million POIs. M300 will have a 3.5″ screen and cost $120, and M400 will have a 4.3″ and cost $150.

With these prices you really don’t have much to lose. The new Mio’s will be available starting this month.

This is the latest from Mio. It is actually called Mio Navman Spirit V505 TV. As you may have already caught on, one of the most advanced features of the Mio V505 TV is that it comes with a digital TV receiver. What this means is that you’ll be able to watch digitally broadcast channels on the go.

Another features of the V505 TV is that if you connect it to your PC you’ll have the ability to plan your trips on Google Maps, and even sync your already geotagged pictures.

V505 is great but currently it is only offered in the U.K. No word on if it’ll ever come out here in the U.S. We doubt it though. Do not expect any similar things in the U.S. until digital TV is big here.

After its recent sat nav systems such as Spirit Moov series Mio just announced two new GPS navigation systems: Moov M300 and M400.

M300 is the smaller of the two and offers a 3.5″ screen with 320x240 pixels resolution. The numbers are 4.3 inches and a resolution of 480 x 272 pixels for the M400.

The M300 incorporates a map of France and is currently marketed at a price of 99 €. The M400 incorporates maps from 23 countries of Western Europe and is available at a price of 149 €.

Both come preloaded with speed radar locations and 1 year worth of free upgrades. Beyond that, it is € 30 per year for France.

The M300 and M400 also come with ‘local’ Mio which lets you search for addresses, including restaurants and shops, from your PC with the Yellow Pages and load them directly into your GPS.

The M400 also offers the NavPix photo navigation: with its integrated photo album, you can view photos of tourist sites, beaches, hotels and restaurants and then be guided directly to the chosen location. You can also retrieve for free from sites NavPix and Flickr, offering more than one million geotagged photographs.

Also worth mentioning is that the M300 and M400 do not have the latest software - Moov Spirit - that is available on the Spirit Moov 300, 500, HF 500 and Moov Spirit V505 and V735 TV TV.

As expected with anything from the company - including their netbooks - Mio Amber integrates a GPS receiver. Combined with the magnetic sensor, FM transmitter to use your car’s audio, and a huge 3.6″ screen you absolutely have no reason to carry around a separate GPS navigation system in your car… via

Mio Moov V700 is the big brother of Mio Moov V500 we just mentioned. Instead of a 4.7″ screen Mio Moov V700 offers a huge 7″ screen. You’ve still got the digital TV receiver, microSD card slot, Spirit user interface, text-to-speech, and the other usual features.

Mio Moov V500 has just been showcased at Computex 2009 in Taipei. Moov V series differ from S series with the addition of digital TV receptor. It still has the Spirit GPS navigation interface and offers pretty much the same set of features.

Mio Moov V500 has a 4.7″ screen, runs on a SiRFprima processor buzzing at 600MHz and even has a microSD card slot.

For extra POI content Moov V-series users can take advantage of the Google Map ‘Send-to-GPS’ service. Users can search for a business, a POI or an address in Google Maps and send the information directly to their devices for navigating. By clicking the ‘Send to’ link within the Google Map page, users can download the search results to MioMore Desktop 2, the software application for Mio GPS devices, to save it to ‘My Place’ for route planning or map viewing. MioMore Desktop 2 also allows users to download free geo-encoded photos from Flickr and then transfer them for navigation.

If you remember we had talked about the Mio Explora K70 a while back. Well, times have changed, and now we also have the Mio Explora K75 GPS phone.

K75 will be the first smart phone from the company to include their new Spirit GPS navigation software, and when combined with its 3.5″ screen, it sure will replace your stand alone GPS navigation system.

Mio Explora K75 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, includes Wi-Fi, quad band GSM and 3.5G network support, bluetooth, 3MP camera, and even Office Mobile.

Also of interest is that Mio Explora K75 just got the Best Choice Award at the Computex Taipei 2009.

Mio Moov S501 was announced today, alongside Moov S401 which we just mentioned.

All the features are almost identical between the two units, except that Moov S501 has a bigger screen that measures 4.7″, and a bigger memory that holds about 12 million points of interests. The device will have North America maps, offer lane guidance, gas price search, a sample Wcities guide loaded, and Google Send to GPS.

Optional stuff are TMC receiver, more Wcities guide, and more maps.

Mio is coming up with a couple of new models for their Moov series. One of them is called Mio Moov S401.

Moov S401 will have a 4.3″ widescreen and carry about 4 million points of interests. It will feature the new Spirit interface Mio has been advertising lately.

A couple extra features are the ability to search for gas prices in your area, and the ability to use Google to send addresses to your unit. Though we’re not sure how it accomplishes these without the mention two way connectivity… Expect to pay about $130 for this unit.

Mitac of Japan will be rolling out its latest portable navigation device which will target motorcycle riders - a group who has been sidelined most of the time when it comes to navigation with the help of GPS technology. This new model will be known as the Mio C523 V2, boasting a rider mode function which is able to indicate specific directions to follow at multiple intersections on a single screen with liberal use of arrows. This will help reduce the time spent looking at the display, allowing the rider to concentrate more on the road instead. Mitac has set the Mio C523's price at approximately $450, and the device is equipped with a 1-Seg TV tuner in addition to a 4.3' touchscreen LCD display, Windows CE operating system and a SiRF Technology GPS chipset.

Mio was displaying a mobile internet device (MID) at CES 2009. Being used to seeing GPS navigation systems from Mio we were quite surprised.

What’s really interesting about Mio MID is that it is running Windows Mobile, not a ‘full’ OS. It has a nice 7″ screen, weighs 600 grams, and can last up to 8 hours on a single charge.

We would be a little disappointed if Mio failed to put a GPS receiver in there, but they didn’t let us down. Mio MID does have an integrated GPS receiver - which they say make this the ideal travel companion. However we do not know if they’re going to install their new Spirit navigation software in there as well.

Mio MID also includes WiFi connectivity. The final specs as well as launch schedule are expected to be revealed in second quarter of this year.
