Nokia C7 will be known as Nokia Astound on T-Mobile! Nokia Astound will be available on the network starting on April 6 and will only cost $80 after a two year contract. The device is a Symbian and has a 3.5″ amoled display with 640x360 resolution. It can capture 720p HD video and as far as stills you can go up to 8MP.

The Nokia Astound supports five bands on HSPA, and quad band GSM, has 1200mAh battery, WiFi, microSD card slot, bluetooth, and even a GPU. But what we care about the most is of course the GPS navigation experience. Nokia has come a long way at this:

Equipped with the latest commercial version of Ovi Maps1, the Nokia Astound provides free voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation in almost 100 countries in 46 languages. The Nokia Astound comes pre-loaded with automotive grade maps for the entire U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean2. With more than 8,000 3D landmarks and free premium content like Lonely Planet guides and TripAdvisor, consumers can explore new places and experiences along the way. New features include improved search engines and WiFi positioning, a drive assistance mode for real-time traffic updates, maps of public transit lines, and the ability to check in to places and share great moments with friends on Facebook, Twitter and many local social networks.

Nokia C6

Nokia C6

Nokia just recently announced their latest Symbian handset called Nokia C6. This is S60 5th edition and includes customizable home screen similar to N97. Obviously this is a GPS enabled device and the GPS related features include Ovi Maps with free lifetime navigation, integrated GPS, and A-GPS receivers, accelerometer for correct orientation of display, automatic geotagging of images, and even a Nokia Maps loader application for a PC.

Other then the GPS features Nokia C6 is still packed. You’ve got a 5MP camera, secondary camera for video calls, LED flash, a full keyboard, WiFi, and a 3.2″ touchscreen. The battery in there is a 1200mAh which should be decent, but if you leave the FM radio on you could easily drain the battery faster than you think.

Nokia just unveiled Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition - their cheapest phone with GPS navigation. Of course it is pre-loaded with Nokia Maps which is the GPS navigation software from the company that lets you get turn-by-turn driving directions with voice guidance included. Not only that but the hardware even supports an integrated digital compass.

Another neat feature is that the maps are locally stored on the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition. Nokia is smart - because the markets they’re targeting with this low end phone may not always have data coverage - and even if they do the customers may not be able to afford it.

Wait until the second quarter of 2010 for Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition and then you can spend about EUR 110 on it.

Sygic just announced that their GPS application (which works on iPhones and other devices) now also works on Nokia Maemo phones. The GPS application will be ready for sale from Sygic website before next year. Sygic offers turn-by-turn voice guided directons on Nokia Maemo 5 OS devices in the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia, USA, Canada, Mexico, USA, all of Europe, Russia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates,

Sygic already works on iPhone, Symbian, Android and Windows Mobile, incl. Windows Mobile 6.5.

We already told you about Nokia N900 when it was only a 3D rendering, and talked about it when it made it through FCC which proved us it also had GPS features. Just a couple of days ago the company made the Nokia N900 official. What are the highlights of the N900? Well, Nokia decided to load this device Maemo 5 OS which is completely Linux based - which means a lot for all the true geeks out there. It also promises a very decent web browsing experience with Mozilla technology and full Adobe Flash 9.4 support. Speaking of internets, we have to mention how connected Nokia N900 is. It does fast internet connectivity with 10/2 HSPA and WLAN - currently supporting 900/1700/2100 MHz. Of course there’s bluetooth too.

Other features of Nokia N900 include the 3.5″ touch screen with 800x480 resolution, 5MP camera with flash and Carl Zeiss lens, integrated GPS, 1GB of memory, physical slide-down keyboard, 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 1320mAh battery, 32GB of storage which can be expanded to 48 via the microSD card slot, and the OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration.

Did we mention it is a phone too? :) Yeah, you can call your friends with the Nokia N900.

How much will the Nokia N900 will cost you? When it comes out in October in selected markets it will go for about 500 Euros.

In the US this would be just over $700. Oh and the 1700Mhz means you can get this on T-Mobile. Nice.

Do you have problems with your GPS reception on your Nokia N95? How about some soldering skills? If you’re brave enough you can open your N95 and remove the default GPS antenna and instead stick in an 8″ speaker wire in there and wrap all over your N95 before closing it back up. You should follows the instructions and read comments here though.

The poster of this hack claims you can get a satellite lock in 5 - 10 seconds - even indoors. However doesn’t share if this is after a cold - or a warm - or a hot start.

Nokia 7205 does GPS navigation

Nokia 7205 (code named Intrigue) was just announced by Verizon Wireless today. The clam shell device has a 2.2″ QVGA 240x320 internal display, a 1.9″ PMOLED external screen; which stays hidden until lit. Like we mentioned in the title Nokia 7205 does GPS navigation; thanks to the CDMA, 1X/EV–DO Rev. A chip inside which also integrates an A-GPS receiver. You don’t get to use your own GPS navigation system of course. You’ll have to use Verizon’s service called VZ Navigator which costs $10/month for unlimited usage.

Other features and specs of 7205 include a microSD card slot, blutooth, touch sensitive buttons, 2MP camera, and a media player.

Nokia 7205 is already available for only $129 after jumping through hoops and a 2 year contract. If you don’t want a contract; nor interested in chasing mail-in-rebate forms you can expect to pay $300 for the phone.

Nokia 8208 is company’s latest GPS enabled handset coming out of MWC. This is a bit different than the rest though because it also supports CDMA band. However not for Sprint or Verizon though; Nokia is preparing this phone for countries other than the U.S.

Some features of Nokia 8208 are the 2.2″ screen, 3MP camera, FM radio, GPS receiver, and microSD card slot.

Speaking of CDMA, Nokia 8208 will support 800MHz, 1900MHz, and EVDO.

Nokia 8208 is expected to launch in select CDMA markets, in the first quarter of 2009.

Nokia N97 was just announced and we have all the specs and features for you. Expect to see N97 mid next year and pay about 550 € for it.

OK, let’s get started with the features - a huge 3.5″ touch screen with 16:9 ratio, full kick-out QWERTY keyboard, 32GB of space for your files plus the ability take up to another 16GB via microSD, and of course location awareness! Nokia N97 has an A-GPS receiver and software to keep you close to your friends. We still do not know about dynamic navigation but we can’t imagine they’d leave out such an old technology :)

Nokia just officially announced the arrival of N95 8GB to U.S. and they’re already shipping it to select locations across the United States with six months of free navigation service included with Nokia Maps.

The expected price is $750 and those select store will include online stores as well as the Nokia flagship stores in New York City and Chicago.

Nokia N95 8GB offers high-speed HSDPA connectivity on 850/1900 MHz networks in the America, comes with a 2.8 inch QVGA screen with support for up to 16 million colors, eight gigabytes of built-in memory, and assisted GPS (A-GPS).

In addition Nokia N95 8GB includes a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens, and Wi-Fi.

Nokia 6210 Navigator was just announced yesterday. It is the first GPS phone from Nokia that includes integrated compass for guiding users on foot. Unlike the 6220, 6210 Navigator does come with navigation software - specifically Nokia Maps 2.0 - so you will be able to get turn by turn guidance right out of the box; for only 300 €.

Other cool features on Nokia 6210 Navigator is the addition of an accelerometer - which can actually turn the map in the correct direction depending on the direction you’re heading.

Nokia GPS Phones to Fight the Traffic Plague [Concepts]

Nokia has developed software that allows data to be received from GPS enabled phones, which is then compiled and interpreted into traffic flow patterns. The plans are currently at concept stage, with a demonstration recently taking place as a joint venture between Nokia, California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT), CalTrans, and Berkeley's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The data sent back from each test car logged the vehicle's speed and location via an on board N95 handset, this information was then sent to a central control station, which in turn relayed the relevant travel alerts. Nokia are quick to point out that their technology has an economical benefit over similar systems, mainly because it relies solely on technology people already own. Given the soon-to-be ubiquitous nature of GPS enabled cellphones, we would have to agree with Nokia's observation. Rest your privacy woes aside; the information sent will be completely anonymous. It certainly sounds like a win, win to us—go ahead and checkout the video at CNet.

Nokia N82 with GPS review

If you are wondering how the A-GPS on N82 performs we have a couple of articles for you to look at:

First off, like we imagined, A-GPS on N82 provides a very fast satellite fix unlike first versions of N95:

Navigation wise the phone has an internal GPS receiver and supports A-GPS, and comes with Nokia Maps installed. Testing the phone, lock on to location in Maps took less than 10 seconds. Very quick, and much quicker than experienced with the N95. The bright, clear QVGA TFT screen supporting up to 16million colours makes navigation very clear and very easy to follow…

The other article mentions the small screen won’t be ideal for following driving directions:

One of the tradeoffs for the N82’s candy bar is its smaller 2.4-inch QVGA display which will now make it even harder to surf the Web or use for GPS directions. (The N95 sports a 2.6-inch screen.)

Nokia put an A-GPS chip on their new phone Nokia N82. Their other big hit - N95 - had a few issues at first with A-GPS but they had figured it out with a new firmware.

We don’t have any reviews on the performance of the GPS receiver on N82 just yet but hopefully it will work right out of the box without needing any firmware upgrades.

A few other cool features include WiFi, FM Tuner, 5 MP digital camera with Xenon flash,Carl Zeiss lens, and autofocus.

Nokia N82 will come out in Europe and will cost about 450 €. It will probably come to the States beginning of 2008.

A-GPS and preinstalled Nokia Maps help you explore and locate new places, whether in another country or just around the corner. All Nokia N82 standard sales packages come with a free voice guided navigation trial, and you can purchase additional features, such as city guides and longer subscription to the navigation.

In case you are wondering Nokia Maps are free to download but if you want voice guided navigation you will have to pay some money. For only one day it’ll cost you 6,49 €, one month will cost you 8 €, a whole month for 60 €, and a whole year for 70 €.

Nokia made official that they will be introducing a WiMAX-enabled version of their N800 internet tablet early next year. Intel is also in this with their Baxter Peak WiMax chip, making use of the WiMax service Sprint will make available in select cities.

These next-generation N series will also contain an integrated GPS chip unlike earlier models which were navigation capable but did not integrated its own GPS. There are also rumors that Nokia will also introduce N800’s without WiMAX but only GPS. Will keep an eye on this and keep you updated…

Nokia LD-4W, which we announced a month ago, today got the official release from Nokia. This bluetooth GPS receiver goes well with N series with its slim body but can connect to any compatible mobile device. LD-4W only weighs 31 grams and can last up to 10 hours on a single charge. The black and metallic body has an LED indicator to alert you to GPS activation, power and battery status, and Bluetooth connectivity status.

LD-4W is available all around the world for about 125€.

Nokia has just unveiled their new in-car GPS navigation system, the 500. The large 4.3-inch display makes it more readable than the previous 330 system, and offers a few more features too. As you would expect, it integrates well with cell-phones - you get Bluetooth handsfree and access to your phone contacts, and can automatically navigate to a contact's address just by pressing their name.

You also get an FM transmitter which can feed multimedia or traffic alerts to your car radio. It should be available towards the end of the year in Europe, priced at about €300. [Nokia]
