Becker Z100 - Crocodile

Becker have designed a new and hardened and more resistant version of its portable GPS Z101 which we mentioned back in May. This new GPS navigation system; Becker Z100, is nicknamed Crocodile since it is outer casing looks like it has scales.

Z100 Crocodile has a wide screen that measures 4.3″ and Navteq maps of 40 countries in Europe stored on a 2GB SD memory card. It works with live traffic information via RDS/TMC Premium and integrates SiRF Star III GPS receiver chip with the SiRF InstantFixII functionality which allows the prediction for satellite locations and thus a faster GPS fix.

The navigation software comes from Navigon which provides advanced guidance with its 3D RealityView and another innovation which shows pictures of the next turn zoomed in on one screen and general view of the map on another.

It's bad enough that lack of memory bogs an Alzheimer Patient, but keeping track of them can takes its toll on the minders. Spanish company Keruve has come out with a GPS device, which can be worn like a bracelet, to keep a tab on Alzheimer's patients. The system is made up of a special bracelet and a PSP like handheld device that indicates the location of the person wearing the bracelet. The bracelet is water resistant and can only be taken off using a special tool. The bracelet GPS receiver works with GSM1800 and GSM900 networks to broadcast its location to the base unit. The system has a battery life of 3.5 days and should the levels reach low, an alarm sounds off.
The GPS Bracelet device for Alzheimer Patients is available in Europe and sells for €850 or $1.345.

We now have more details on the iNAVI ES series we mentioned earlier this month. There is a new model called iNAVI ES100+ which apparently is the low end GPS navigation system. As you can see from the picture above this is what Korean’s call low-end:

Viliv has just showcased new models in the Viliv X70 series in addition to the initial model ‘Vant’. The new models are X70 Shine, X70 Express, and X70 Study. The Viliv X70’s mostly fall into personal multimedia player (PMP) category but they do have a lot more functions then just playing your music, and videos.

First off Viliv Vant and Viliv X70 Shine both have integrated GPS receiver and thus have door-to-door navigation capabilities. Viliv Vant comes in two versions, one with 30GB HDD, and another with 60GB. Viliv X70 Shine on the other hand comes with a 8GB flash disk. These two models also include Wi-Fi antenna, TPEG traffic receiver, as well as an AV in port.

Other features of Viliv X70’s include digital TV receiver, 256MB memory, 700Mhz processor, 7″ screen, all sorts of support for various media files (even PDF), and of course a web browser.

Viliv X70’s cost anywhere between 400,000KRW to 700,000 ($400 to $700). Not to be expected on the States side…

Palm and Sprint today officially announced Palm Treo 800W with integrated GPS. With the embedded GPS and Palm software, Treo 800w smartphone offers maps, point-to-point directions and point-of-interest (POI) searches.

This is Sprint’s newest smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional which is designed for business users who depend on their smartphones for high-speed work on the go. Palm Treo 800w operates on the Sprint and utilizes EV-DO Rev. A networks.

Palm Treo 800w has a nice 320x320 screen, 2MP camera, and a microSD card slot. It will cost $250 if you’re willing to stay loyal to Sprint for two years. The door-to-door navigation is of course extra and will cost an extra $10 on top of your voice/data plan.

Once the GPS Navigation program starts up, your selected destination is instantly set up and in moments, the voice prompts start telling you exactly which way to go in order to get there. This integration (combined with the extremely high speed GPS fix times) makes the Treo 800w by far the easiest to use GPS Navigation system I’ve ever seen.

Finally we have Garmin Oregon 400t which will fly off the shelves since it only costs $640 ( end sarcasm). While the other 400 Oregon models (400i, 400c) specialize in freshwater and saltwater, 400t specializes in topo maps and 3D map views.

The map that comes with Oregon 400t include details such as national, state and local parks and forests, terrain contours, elevation information, trails, rivers, lakes and points of interest. And in case topo maps mean nothing to you you can switch to the 3D map view to get an idea of how steep the hill is.

The rest of the specs such as the microSD card slot, USB interface, 3″ screen, barometric altimeter, electronic compass, rugged IPX7 waterproof case is all standard on 400t.
